All paediatric nephrologists practising in Canada are eligible for membership of the Canadian Association of Paediatric Nephrologists.

Membership and fees

  • Active members pay annual dues of C$50, due at the beginning of each calendar year.
  • Trainees are Trainee Members and pay no fees.
  • Meritorious members: members in good standing who have reached 65 may request this status. They pay no fees, and waive their vote at the annual general meeting.
  • International colleagues who trained in Canada are invited to keep their ties to the Canadian paediatric nephrology community and apply for membership.

How to join

  1. Create a membership account. All current and new members hold an account. Application form link to be added.
  2. Wait for the invoice. Within 72 hours CAPN sends an invoice for dues, payable through PayPal by credit card or direct debit, with a receipt issued immediately. The yearly invoice arrives the same way.

Discounts at sister organisations

Active CAPN membership unlocks reduced rates at several partner societies. All of the memberships below can be bought at the discounted rate while your CAPN membership is active.

    Join through the CSN membership page and look for the plan called MEMBER (MD-CAPN). The plan is open only to permanent residents of Canada; others should choose the Associate Corresponding plan.

    Eligibility and benefits

    Eligibility. Any CAPN member may apply for active membership of the CSN. Applicants hold an MD or PhD, or equivalent, and have demonstrated a major and continued interest in nephrology, judged on clinical training in paediatric nephrology, or significant clinical experience as a specialist and consultant in paediatric kidney disease and related conditions, together with CAPN membership.

    • Notice of, attendance at and a vote at all meetings of the members of the corporation.

    • Group membership of the International Society of Nephrology: electronic access to Kidney International, its supplements and Kidney International Reports; the ISN Academy e-learning platform; substantial discounts on the World Congress of Nephrology, Frontiers meetings and other ISN events; access to ISN grants; and eligibility for ISN committees, working groups and leadership elections.

    A portion of CSN dues supports its international health initiatives, which build capacity for treating kidney disease in low and middle income countries.

    Active membership is open to anyone holding an MD, PhD or equivalent who has shown a major and continuing interest in paediatric nephrology and is a resident or citizen of the United States or Canada. It brings discounted rates at ASPN events and a voice in the meetings that set advocacy and educational policy for North American practice. Join through ASPN membership services.

    How to get the Canadian discount, step by step

    1. Check you are eligible. You must be a Canadian resident or citizen with a Canadian mailing address. The discount applies to Active memberships only, not Associate, Emeritus or Affiliate.

    2. Choose your membership type. Without IPNA dues, US$170 a year. With IPNA dues, US$145 for ASPN plus US$60 for discounted IPNA dues, US$205 in total after all discounts.

    3. The Canadian discount applies itself. If your mailing address is in Canada, it comes off the Active membership fee automatically.

    4. Ask for the extra IPNA discount. If you are joining or renewing IPNA at the same time, a further US$25 comes off the IPNA dues, but you need a code from the ASPN office. Email info@aspneph.org or call +1 (703) 884-9574.

    5. Apply or renew. If you want IPNA membership too, add it to your cart from the IPNA membership page first, then choose Continue Shopping. Go to the ASPN membership page, select Active Membership, and enter the $25 discount code if you have one.

    6. Review and submit. Check that every discount has been applied before submitting your application and payment.

    Discounted registration for IPNA congresses and a subscription to the journal Pediatric Nephrology. The cheapest route for Canadians is to add IPNA dues to an ASPN Active membership, as set out above. IPNA membership is free for trainees until they finish training.
